Welcome everyone to what’s sure to be another great year at HWTA. I’m Karen Morris, and I’m thrilled to be your president. I’ve been playing tennis for more years than I care to admit, so this is a tremendous honor. With this year’s great selection of board members, I know it will be a busy and successful year. We have many new faces, so please take time to introduce yourself and make new friends.
The annual membership social is scheduled for Feb. 19 at the lovely home of Barbara Daniels. I hope to see each of you there, seasoned members, new members and friends alike. Our tournament dates have been set, and the USTA leagues are getting ready to start. Be sure to check out the website on a regular basis to find dates, times, and other pertinent information. The website will serve as a living document with updated information about many areas as well as photographs.
We still have a few weeks of winter left, so for all of you die-hard players, stay warm. I’m thrilled to get back out on the court for what I know will be another stellar year with HWTA. For the past several years, this organization has been a welcomed indulgence in my life. I love this game, and I love these ladies. I’m humbled to be part of this group, and I can’t wait to get started.
Trish Kee (right) wins the sportsmanship award, and Nan Case (left) is voted most improved. Details are in the Christmas luncheon article.
What a way to kick off the month of December with our Christmas Luncheon! The luncheon is jam-packed with toy donations going to Toys for Tots; two awards presentations; acknowledgement of our Fall Charity Tournament; nomination of new officers; entertainment; out-going President Arlene Taylor’s remarks; door prizes; social………and oh, yes, something to eat! But, hey, we are becoming Super Women, not just on the courts, (yeh, we are!), but we accomplish this feat in less than 2 hours with lots of organization from many members!
The 4th of December was another fun luncheon held at the Valley Hill Country Club, with Connie Smith once again sponsoring us. Barbara Hitt started our luncheon with a prayer to satisfy any denomination. Trish Kee and Nan Case each received the coveted awards of Sportsman and Most Improved. Marsha Gates presented Tony Osani with a check for the Miracle League. Chris Jackson shared her wonderful voice in leading us in Christmas carols while our lunch was served. Door prizes were provided by Bennets Nursery and Joc Simmons. The table decorations of metal sleighs and baskets filled with greenery, were taken home by one lucky lady at each table. Special thanks to Linda Winters for the task of table reservations, Karen Mitchell and Sue Chatham for name tags and table numbers, Mary Ann DeMaioribus for creating the invitation and poster, Kathy Brandon as our tireless photographer, the decorating committee, and Sally Walker for always being there as needed.
We all know that Karen Morris as our new president will lead us into another eventful year with her newly nominated board. Hopefully, you all have your calendars marked for the first Tuesday in December for the 2013 Christmas Luncheon……see you there!
